Submarine Vesikko Getting Ready for Its 80th Birthday
One of Finland’s five submarines survived as a museum despite Paris peace treaty 1947 that forbade Soviet Union’s Western neighbour from owning them. Soon the popular Suomenlinna sea fortress tourist attraction will be open for public again to celebrate the anniversary.
Vesikko is Finnish for European Mink. At about the same time with the peace treaty, the specie also became practically extinct in Finland.
